I am a South African Plastic Surgeon; born and trained; a Fellow of the South African College of Surgeons, member of the Association of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons of South Africa and registered with the Health Professionals Council of South Africa, The Irish Medical Council and The U.K. General Medical Council. I am in Private Practice at Cape Town Medi-Clinic where, apart from my Cosmetic Surgery interests, we incorporate The Cape Wound and Scar Clinic.
My other fields of focus include all Trauma Reconstructive Surgery, Skin Lesions, Breast Reconstruction and I have a special interest in Congenital Hand Surgery. I also work as the Consultant Plastic Surgeon at the Congenital Hand Unit at Red Cross Children's Hospital in Rondebosch, Cape Town.
Part of my practice incorporates “The Cape Wound and Scar Clinic” staffed by Sister Amelda Marais. Sister Marais is a wound care specialist who is able to treat all types of wound and scar conditions ranging through diabetic problems, burns and vasculopathies.
When I’m not operating or seeing patients, my family and I revel in the lifestyle that only Cape Town can offer. I am very actively involved in surfing, kite-boarding, rock climbing, sailing and paddling.
As a Professional I have the following to offer:
- All-encompassing honest communication: I pride myself in being a good judge of character. I believe the understanding of a patient's motivation for surgery helps me to help them make the right choices. If I feel that a procedure is inappropriate, I won't operate; instead I’ll give advice on a more appropriate course of action.
- Tried and tested safe surgical procedures: I am wary of the “Fantastic New Procedure!”, until surgical science and time have proven the procedure worthy.
- I don't cut corners to cut cost: I work with highly professional Anaesthesiologists in approved operating theatres.
- A networking system for difficult or unusual cases: The Cape Town Plastic Surgeons enjoy regular consultation with each other about problem cases (with the patient's consent). This ensures the best clinical outcome.
